The Moving of
the Spirit
by Rev.
Myrl Eddings
A
dream came to me in which I imagined that I was carrying a one-legged man to a church
service at a stadium. Many people were sitting in the bleachers and a large number of
wheel chairs and lame people who were gathered, waiting for a healing from God. Unsure of
what was happening, I walked to a corner of the stadium where a woman was singing. She
sang a song I had never heard. The words let the Spirit descend rang out as
the Spirit of the Lord began to fill the place. The countenance of those in attendance
began to change as the people raised their hands in reverence and anticipation. I had the
unmistakable sense that a supernatural manifestation was imminent.
God is about to
move in a new and powerful way, using those who are prepared and faithful, positive and
determined to accomplish His bidding. Thankfully, Hes forgiving when we falter, but
we need to arise out of mediocrity and excel in the will of God. With that in mind, we
must separate ourselves from the world unto Him. Christians often are easily discouraged
through hardship and dont honorably represent the body of Christ. Through
experiences, however, we can help others. There should be no regrets for trials endured.
Dividends are forthcoming. The wealth of sinners is laid up for the just (Proverbs 13:22).
Furthermore, promotion comes from the Lord (Psalm 75:6-7).
Psalm
103 reminds us of the benefits of both physical healing and spiritual renewal for Gods
children. Were the temple of the Lord and should not be sick indefinitely. How
dare Satan presume to attack Gods dwelling place! Matthew 4:23 speaks of Jesus
healing and deliverance for all manner of sickness and disease. We must impose
authority against the devil, not be content to make excuses that allow him to keep us from
total victory. David seemed to be the only Jew outraged enough at the enemies of Gods
chosen to take a stand against their defiance. He boldly resisted (and defeated) the
greatest opposition the Phillistines could produce against the people of Jehovah. As in
times past, the children of Israel had a faith famine. Only two of the original Jews that
left Egypt survived until they reached the land promised to Abraham. As we grow in our
faith as Joshua, Caleb, and David, we can expect to see greater victory, including
diminishing illness.
There
will be a move of the Holy Ghost. The only question is, who will be a part of
it? The Church must not only show outward displays of righteousness, but also
be valid members of the army of the Lord. Many who profess Christianity appear to lack Gods
seal on their lives.
Theyre
walk is inconsistent, with a wavering commitment to the Lordthe here
today, gone tomorrow syndrome. The love for Jesus should overcome any luster the
world may seem to offer. Our desire must be to fellowship with the Savior and obey His
mandates. Lets not aim to do just enough to pacify God, but do the very best we can
to please Him in whatever calling we have.
Those
who seek the affirmation of man may attempt to certify themselves through deception of
man, but God knows where we live and how we live. Our fruits will verify who we are and
whose we are. The presence of the Holy Spirit surrounds the faithful continuously, but the
Lord will lead those who turn aside from righteousness to the destination of the wicked
(Psalm 125:2,5). The Israelites were en route to the Promised Land and couldnt
realize it. Similarly, we cant often discern how close we are to our reward.
Regardless of what we see, we can trust God to lead us in the right direction. Job refused
to doubt a positive outcome in the grimmest of circumstances. The Lord is able to keep us
with adequate resources in place. Jesus promised, he that endures to the end
will be saved (Matthew 10:22). God will usher in His Church with deliverance and
power!
