Confident Living

                       by Rev. Myrl Eddings

Our attitude matters a great deal.  I’m learning in my latter years to focus on the good things of God.  We should be careful not to have a gloom and doom mentality.  Trials are sure to come our way. But we need to realize that we have a royal lineage and that God is on our side always and will deliver us if we maintain the right frame of mind.   I’ve learned to praise the Lord in everything.  If He is on our side, what can the devil do to us?  Satan is only a tool in the hand of God and can go only as far as he is allowed to go.  Once, I was reluctant to testify after hearing skeptics warn of impending defeat as a result of the devil’s vengeance for having made claims of the Lord’s works.  I began to realize, however, that He is able to keep those things which I have committed to Him (II Timothy 1:12)  I’m aware that God, and not myself, is able to perform all things on my behalf.   Being friends with Him, I feel confident in going to the Lord in times of trouble and trust Him for things that I can’t accomplish myself.  Friends will do favors for other friends.  Everything’s alright as long as we keep Jesus as our partner and hold ownership in possessions together.

We’re often unhappy, dwelling on negative things.  There will always be issues to discourage us if our focal point is grounded in negativity.  Thank the Lord that, while I’m not where I’m going, I’m not where I used to be.  God has been good to me from birth.  Even as a child, I would feel at times as the Lord was watching me…and He probably was!  As a first-grader, my mother had been given up for dead being in the advanced stages of cancer.  After my minister uncle prayed for her healing she got off the operating table shouting before the Lord, miraculously healed.  She raised three preachers and lived many years after that to the ripe age of 93 years.  Numerous instances of healing have occurred just in my family including my sister and children.  God will hear prayer if we’ll seriously petition his aid.

The Church needs to prosper in all areas so that we can assist those in need.  The Lord desires us to ride on high places.  He has called us out as separate people, being in the world but not of the world.  The sooner we can recognize God’s providence and praise Him for His goodness, the sooner we can experience the fullness of His Spirit.  Sometimes we are selective in our faith.  “Believers” will trust the Lord for some things, and doubt that He’ll do another for us.  The only reason God fails to provide in certain situations is that our faith fails in those times of weakness.  Jesus invited any and all who would to come and drink of the water of life freely.  Condemnation bombards us and we’re convinced that the Lord will not intervene in our time of need.  But when God puts His Spirit in a person all is changed.  The inheritance of all that is His, belongs to us.  It’s time that we realize that we’re the most blessed people on earth, with every reason to be happy, in spite of temporary circumstances.  Jesus is Lord and has embodied His children.  All who have been born again by the Holy Ghost have the promise and seal of eternal life.  We don’t have to live under the curse of the enemy because God lifted the curse off of us.  We have power over the devil unless we yield to him.

The Lord is able to open up the windows of heaven and pour out blessings that we’re unable to receive if we’ll just believe Him for them (Malachi 3:10).
