Fruits of Faithfulness

                       by Rev. Myrl Eddings

Faithfulness is important in the life of the believer.  Regardless of any other worthy attributes we may feel we possess, there is no substitute for the committed relationship between saint and Savior.  Claims may be made for our love of God or knowledge of the Bible, but all else pales in comparison to godly dedication. It's essential for those about us as well.  What would happen if our spiritual leaders decided to neglect their responsibilities and abandoned their flock?  Thankfully, the Good Shepherd didn't do that but was obedient to the death of the cross (Phillipians 2:8). As we continue, we'll examine reasons why we should be faithful to the call of God.

It is worth noting that we reap what we sow.  This is why we need true repentance when we fail the Lord, not just remorse for sin, but a turning away from maladaptive behavior.  If a person continues to sow unfruitful works, there is no hope for a good harvest.  Understanding of God's word and adherence to it produces good fruit that is satisfying to all.  Imagine taking a journey and travel ling in the wrong direction. Despite of your ambition, speed, or good intentions, there is no possibility of seeing your destination any time soon.

While struggle is a way of life for the child of God, the misconception of Christianity being an arduous task abounds.  Jesus encouraged his followers to learn of him, because he assured us, "my yoke is easy and my burden is light".  The way of transgressors is hard (Proverbs 13:15), because desiring to be blessed and to going one's own way creates a dilemma that can't be resolved with a divided mentality.

Let us not forget Christ's insight into heavenly promotion as he insisted on the importance of faithfulness in the smallest matters in order to be entrusted with greater responsibilities (Matthew 25:21,23).  Paul's clarity was unmistakable concerning our being stewards of the mysteries of God.  He indicated that stewards are required to be faithful (I Corinthians 4:2).  In short, to receive true spiritual revelation from the Lord, we must be faithful to assist others and to do the best we can with our present understanding.

None of us can out-give the Lord. Whether we feel we've done more than will ever be repaid, God's pride miraculously supercedes our best efforts. Blessings will overtake the committed steward.  Spiritual growth, healing, prosperity and more are ours for the asking if our hearts are right toward Him.

We may find excuses to sin but it would be worthwhile finding motivation to do righteous works.  David told of divine benefits that belong to faithful servants. On many occasions, God has helped me out of difficulties that seemed overwhelming.  I've learned that no matter where we are or what we're facing, the Lord is with His people to deliver them.  It's only right that we give Him glory for what He's done and turn our hearts to God.
