Christian Fundamentals

                    by Rev. Myrl Eddings

Did you ever wonder why God made man?  There may be many explanations, but I believe He made all creation in order to have companionship.   Because, even the wealthiest people get lonely and seek friends.  In this instance, the Creator desired to share His goodness with the species known as humanity.   Scripture tells us that He made the entire universe for His pleasure and purpose.   Yet, gratefully, the benefits are extended to us as well, simply because, in the words of a famous greeting card, He ‘cared enough to send the very best’ in His son Jesus Christ.

Of course, the end result of the pathway of earthly life is eternity with the Father in Heaven.  During our time on earth, however, we have the great privilege of the Lord’s fellowship.  To capitalize on this opportunity, the Psalmist wrote that the praises of God would continually be in his mouth (Ps. 34).   Furthermore, we would do well to trust in God always.  This is a much-needed characteristic of the church today.  The ability to endure is a quality in great demand among modern believers, too.  For we know that every house will be tried by fire.  Still, we must occasionally endure hardness as a good soldier of Christ (II Tim. 2:3).

We’re not as those who have no hope, after all.   Thankfully, we have a sure foundation in the Savior, Jesus Christ—the author and finisher of our faith.  He is capable and compassionate, faithful and friendly.   Not to diminish the many struggles we encounter, but sometimes living for the Lord is so easy we stumble making too great an effort!  A relationship with God is as simple as living with a clean conscious, being empowered and led by the Holy Spirit, with a mind of repentance and humility when we fail to renew divine fellowship again.  So, perk up! God is on our side, and who could dare be against us?
