Ordering Priorities
by Rev. Myrl Eddings
In the world where we live, its necessary to have some
self-confidence in order to overcome Satans attempts to demoralize us. I learned
this lesson early in my Christian walk. Singing for the first time publicly was pretty
nerve-wracking. But singing on the radio to boot was extra challenging for someone
whod always been bashful. Add to that natural anxiety someone trying to discourage
me from entering into such a treacherous venture, and voile: instant panic attack. I
pressed through, though and have been singing ever since. So it goes for the would-be
worker in the ministry.
Promotion, then, goes a long way toward gaining momentum as souls are added to the kingdom
of God. We have a message to proclaim and, as Paul said, theres no need to be
ashamed of the Gospel, since it is the power of God that leads to salvation (Rom.
1:16). He was wise enough, however, not to waste good seed on poor soil, and became the
apostle to the Gentiles after many of the Jews rejected the preaching of the New Covenant.
Thankfully, he was willing to hit the road to spread the Word around all the civilized
world.
We can be glad that Jesus promised returns for those who would put aside the pursuit of
houses and lands for his sake. He didnt necessarily say that it would come to that,
but that our priorities be correct. Christ certainly kept his focus on heavens work.
He left behind the security of a continuous dwelling and decided to carry out his ministry
to Israel.
Making the decision to fulfill Gods calling on ones life is a serious matter.
There will undoubtedly be obstacles on the road to obedience. But take heart. We have a
helper who is well able to keep that which weve committed to him (Phi. 1:6).
